Capability Meets Luxury in a Minimum Carbon Footprint

Each of the Arcimoto’s front wheels is powered by its own electric motor. Together, the motors deliver 81 horsepower and a potential top speed of 75 mph starting from a 7.5 second 0-60 acceleration that is thrilling for driver and passenger alike. This is more than enough zoom for the tight streets of Key West, and most of the FUVs in the Arcimoto Key West fleet are governed to a top speed of 30 mph for safety and to comply with Florida licensing regulations. However, visitors who have a motorcycle driver’s license are eligible to rent an ungoverned FUV and enjoy trying out the full potential of one of the fastest all-electric vehicles currently on the road.

Battery range will vary with speed and driving style, including the distance traveled at top speed and the driver’s use of the hand-operated regen trigger/brake that sends charge back to the batteries. In normal city operating conditions, the FUV battery will easily provide a full day of travel around Key West. For multi-day rentals, FUV drivers who have access to a 110v outlet can use the FUV’s 110-volt charging adapter cable. Your FUV may also be returned to the Hub on Stock Island for overnight 220v charging, or you can simply exchange it for a fully charged vehicle.

Safe and Exciting Sightseeing

Many visitors consider a Key West scooter rental when exploring island transportation options, but the Arcimoto FUV is a much safer and more user-friendly alternative. The FUV meets all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for a motorcycle, but driving an FUV is far less risky than taking to the streets of Key West aboard a two-wheeled vehicle.

The Arcimoto protects driver and passenger with a full roll and impact cage, and the FUV has been tested to meet rigorous requirements for roof crush strength and front/side impact resistance. The front of the vehicle features impact energy absorption zones, and the rear wheel acts as an extended air-filled bumper. High-back bucket seats cradle the driver and passenger in supportive comfort while dual shoulder and lap belts on each seat provide a criss-cross harness restraint for complete security. Finally, the excellent visibility and agility offered by the FUV help prevent accidents from ever happening in the first place.

Responsive acceleration makes the FUV safe to drive in busy traffic, and the vehicle is very stable and well-balanced when on the move. With the weight of the battery compartment centered at the lowest point on the vehicle, the center of gravity is kept low so the FUV is almost impossible to tip over. The reverse trike design moves the center of mass toward the two front wheels during deceleration and braking, and keeps the center of mass within the triangle formed by the wheels during high-speed maneuvering such as evasive actions in traffic. The stability of the FUV actually increases in situations where a motorcycle or scooter loses stability.
As Fun as a Motorcycle but Much Easier to Drive

The Arcimoto FUV is a motorcycle-class vehicle, and like a motorcycle, it is highly maneuverable and responsive to the throttle. But the FUV drives very differently than a motorcycle. The FUV cannot tip over, and unlike riding a motorcycle, the driver and passenger do not need to lean and countersteer the FUV when cornering. The FUV’s braking distance is much shorter than a motorcycle’s, and emergency braking does not pose the danger it does on a two-wheeler.

Handlebars make steering the FUV effortless, and the controls are simple and intuitive. A right-hand throttle controls acceleration and deceleration, and a floor-mounted brake pedal operates hydraulic disc brakes just like in a car. A left-hand regen trigger lever lets the driver turn the vehicle’s inertia into battery charge while also helping to slow the FUV. An automatic transmission with reverse combines with a tight 40-degree turning radius to make maneuvering and parking the FUV a breeze.

Overall, an FUV is no comparison to a bicycle, scooter, or motorcycle when it comes to safe and easy cruising and sightseeing. Any experienced two-wheeler rider will tell you that 110% alertness and attention are advisable at all times on these vehicles. This is not a formula for relaxing sightseeing. The FUV is as simple to operate as a golf cart and other than being 21 years of age, no special licensing, helmets, or other requirements are needed to rent an FUV from Arcimoto Key West.
